How do I get my puppy to sleep in her own bed?

I have a bed for my 10 week old chihuahua. But she doesn’t sleep in it and quickly tries to leave when we place her on it. In stead she tries to sleep on my bed, which makes her whine and cry during the night since she tries to go on to the bed. How should I get her to sleep on her own bed?

i would crate train her. i did that for my puppy when he was little until i felt he was fully potty trained thru the night, and then got him a “big boy” bed and now he’d rather sleep on that thing than with me..but crate training is the way to go..she’ll probably whine and cry for a little bit, but thats normal..get a spray bottle and when she whines spray her in the face..or if you don’t like that, i’ve used a bottle with coins in it, and shake it when she whines..she won’t like either thing most likely, but one will work. that way she is learning to respect your room and your sleep time and she has her own home.

You might not like this answer but it works and is the safest place for your little one. Crate train her. I’ve had many dogs in my life and never wanted to crate train. The two years old dog I adopted from a shelter is now crate trained and it’s so great for me and for her. I allow her to have the run of the house at night but when I go out she is in the crate and loves it. She runs in there when I’m ready to leave. She sleeps in there during the day with the door open. The crate shouldn’t so big where the puppy will go to the bathroom and have enough room to move away from it. Bring your puppy to the pet store if you decide to buy a crate and fit her for one. She will cry in the being but stick with it. You will be very happy in the long run. Put bedding in there some toys that she can’t choke on or tear apart. Think safety all the time. She is young so it will a bit for her to adjust. Good Luck

Crate train her would work the best, it’s kinda crule, but it’s worth it.

Get her her own “blankee”. Have her sleep on it during the day, then put it in her bed at night and tell her over and over to get in her house. Worked for me and my dogs. They love their own blankee – and I have a Golden Retreiver and a German Shepherd. :)

How about putting her bed inside a crate that is just her size. It will make her feel safe being in a confined little area, rather than being able to ‘roam around’ a great big area like your room. That’s scary to alot of small dogs. Plus, she’s less likely to go potty in her crate/kennel, rather than if she can have the run of your room.

She will get to where she loves the crate and that will be her ‘getaway’ when she’s scared (maybe alot of people around), she’s tired and wants to be alone, etc. Like I said, just make sure it’s small for her size and not one that’s made for a bigger dog so she feels comfy and safe. Good Luck!

Crate train with her bed in the crate and do not ever give in when she whines to get onto your bed. Consistency is very important in training and reinforcing your message that she belongs in her own bed. You could also put a shirt of yours in her crate so that she still feels close to you.

you should place her favorite toys and small snacks on the bed, she will soon veiw her bed as a haven and gradually start sleeping on it

I have a chihuahua and he did that for the longest time. I started layin on the floor with him for a while I know sounds funny. But its helped him to sleep. Now he is 7 yrs old and now I let him sleep with me and every now and then he roll over on him and he will jump down and sleep on the floor lol. Just tell him no and lay down I know hes still a pup. My greatdane mixed with a bull mastiff cryed every night drove us crazy we told him to lay down and go to sleep and he would. Just give it time she will learn she cant sleep will u it takes time GL!!!
